The Rush family reunion will be short-lived.

Kareem Rush, older brother of No. 13 NBA Draft pick Brandon, signed a free-agent contract with the 76ers today, eliminating the possibility the two could be teammates with the Pacers.

"As we continue to build our team, we're fortunate that we were able to sign a player as talented as Kareem Rush," Ed Stefanski, 76ers president and general manager, said in a press release. "We feel his abilities on both ends of the floor and his range as a 3-point shooter will be assets to us this season."

A former first-round pick (2002) from Missouri, Kareem Rush returned to the NBA with the Pacers last season after a one-year overseas hiatus, not only re-establishing his NBA credentials but showing an improved defensive game and more all-around skills than in his first four seasons split between the Lakers and Bobcats.

He averaged 8.3 points and posted career highs in 3-point percentage (.389), 3-pointers made and attempted (102-of-262), minutes (1,504), rebounds, (2.4) and assists (1.3) in 71 games, including 15 starts. As a starter, Rush averaged 13.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

The Pacers' acquisition of Brandon Rush in a draft-night trade with Portland helped make the veteran Rush, who signed a one-year contract last summer, expendable. Both play the same position but Brandon, at 6-6, has more size, versatility and long-range potential.

Kareem Rush's departure leaves the Pacers with 19 players on the roster but that includes free agents David Harrison, Ronald "Flip" Murray and Andre Owens, none of whom are expected to be re-signed.
